Position Summary: The Department of Geography at The University of Alabama seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor who will support the continued expansion of our Department including the implementation of our new Ph.D. program.
Minimum Preferred Qualifications: The University of Alabama, Department of Geography invites applications for a tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in Political Ecology starting August 16, 2018. This new position will support the expansion of our Department, including a new Ph.D. program that began Fall 2017. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellence in research and teaching, as well as potential for developing robust, externally funded research programs. The candidate's research will integrate geospatial techniques with topic areas that complement one or more of the department's broader research foci including: water resources, coupled human-environment systems, land-use change, food-energy-water nexus, and/or environmental impacts and management (see https://geography.ua.edu/). A Ph.D. in Geography or closely related discipline at time of appointment is required. The University of Alabama is rapidly growing (38,563 students) and provides excellent faculty support and many opportunities to collaborate with scientists on the Tuscaloosa campus. This includes scientists in the new NOAA National Water Center www.nws.noaa.gov/oh/nwc/, the Water Policy and Law Institute, and the new Alabama Water Institute.
