Summary of the Position

The Director of Application Services, reporting to the CIO, is responsible for overseeing services across a portfolio of hosted and cloud solutions as well the management of supporting processes, information, and related Information Technology (IT) resources. This work includes:
• Overseeing the end-to-end implementation and management of enterprise software systems to support the effective and efficient delivery of services across the business.
• Establishing and executing short and long term strategic plans along with tactical prioritization, goals, policies, and procedures for the Application Services group.
• Directing a team of service managers (Integration/Development, Data Management and Database Administration), and working with other services areas to support the daily production operations, monitoring, incident management, and problem resolution.
• Working closely with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization.

You will be responsible for building close working relationships across IT, including Systems, Networking, Academic Computing and the Project Management Office as well as other organizations across campus. These collaborations will be in support of existing services as well as delivering new capabilities and transitioning services into production. Bentley is in the midst of moving significant services to SaaS platforms. Experience with vendor contracts and Service level agreements and support transition is critical.

This position requires the individual to have broad business knowledge, business operations experience, strong communications skills, and a passion for delivering services and solutions at scale to our internal customers and the Bentley community. This role is responsible for facilitating the coordination of data and systems integration.

Essential Functions

Establish and execute the strategy for the development, quality assurance, deployment, and maintenance of Bentley's application services that will ensure the integrity, security and privacy of the information maintained by the enterprise.

This includes all packaged, cloud based, and in-house developed software solutions.

Gather business requirements and develop (and manage) an application services roadmap and strategic plan to meet the long-term functional requirements and vision of the business.

Leads the Application Services group, which includes the Integrations/Development, Data Management, and Database Administration teams. This role is accountable for successful outcomes in each of these areas.
Manage the application services portfolio and prioritize IT applications development/support efforts in cooperation with the business. Ensure that all committed application service levels are being met and corrective actions are implemented when they are not.

Work with the business and IT leadership team to manage 3rd party software integration projects including systems, infrastructure, training and Go-Live support.

Serve as an administrative point of contact for Bentley university consumers and partners of application services. Work with users to refine business processes and resolve operational issues.

Provide guidance, leadership and mentoring to a team of Application Services professionals. Supports and develops the technical expertise needed to meet long-term business needs. Directs resources for the assigned area of responsibility including assignment of work, performance management, career development, compensation, application and business training and development, and hiring decisions.

Ensure quality outcomes that support the business operations within the enterprise.
Review and monitor the preparation of the overall department budgets, by evaluating cost control, timelines and project quality status.

Key technical resource. Comfortable engaging with staff and others on technical matters (in the Development, Data Management, and Data Warehousing domains) to lead analysis and provide direction.

Develop and deliver the benchmarking, identification of best practices, metrics and reporting on health of the Bentley's data-driven initiatives.

Develops the vision and strategy to collect, curate and present information from academic, research or administrative data sources. This includes the implementation of a data lake, data warehouse, broad reporting requirements and end-user reporting. The candidate will collaborate to integrate activity across faculty, students, research, the library and administrative units.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience Requirements)

10+ years of IT and business experience, together with strong project management and service management experience.

Project management skills, including the ability to set timelines, identify and handle multiple priorities, organize tasks and manage/facilitate a team for information system upgrades, enhancement, and new implementations.

Service management skills/experience (ITIL) including the establishment of a service catalog and the development and management of Service level agreements.
Experience with implementation methodologies as well as structured system analysis, design, and architecture.
Knowledge of business analysis and requirements gathering best practices.

Wide breadth of technical expertise, including: development, application support, data management, database administration, Informatica, and Oracle under UNIX, Linux and Windows environments.

Preferred Qualifications

10+ years of higher education experience
10+ years of project management and/or service management experience.
5+ years in a personnel management/leadership capacity.
5+ years at a Manager/Director Level
Experience with Banner, Workday, Millennium, Slate and Salesforce preferred.
