Responsibilities:

The Academic Advisor in the Bouve Enrollment Management & Student Services Office will provide effective, student-centered academic advising to undergraduate students. Provide support for the Office of Student Services through reports and data related to student enrollment, student academic progress, and course scheduling as requested. Use the Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS) regularly to ensure students are on track for graduation. Work with Registrar when necessary to ensure that DARS is fully functioning and meets each of the program's curriculum requirement. Duties include monitoring academic progress, working with “at risk” students, using our Faculty Communication Advising Tool, and assisting with new-student orientation sessions. The advisor serves as a liaison between department faculty and the Office of Student Services. He or she assesses progression and reviews records for completion of degree requirements using DARS.
In collaboration with the Senior Director of Student Services and Enrollment Management, the person in this position designs and administers activities and programs to promote the academic success of students from first-year through graduation. These programs improve overall persistence and interface with Residential Life- Living Learning Community, Career Services, the Student Athlete Support Office, and other university offices as needed. The advisor works with students to enhance engagement in their majors, colleges, university, and community at large. He or she may also have the opportunity to teach a seminar for first-year Bouve students.
The advisor is responsible for formulating and recommending policies and procedures to effectively administer Student Services' academic functions. He or she should also recommend new and improved programs and systems to effectively manage student retention. The advisor assists university administrators and inter-institutional groups by offering recommendations and resolving problems.
Other responsibilities include performing activities that support the retention and graduation goals of the College and the University. The advisor will participate in recruitment activities such as Preview Days, Admissions Welcome Days, and presentations to prospective students and parents. He or she may serve as liaison between university administrators, students, parents, faculty, staff, and others regarding admissions/registration activities.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree required. Previous experience in higher education desirable. Ability to work with students to support and advise students from first year through graduation. Effective presenter, demonstrating the ability to communicate both orally and in writing; experience with PowerPoint. Individual must work well under pressure and have excellent time-management skills, plus demonstrated advising/counseling ability. Individual must demonstrate the ability to set goals, take initiative, follow through and organize effectively. Individual must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work with precision. The ability to relate to people of varied academic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds is required. Individual must be able to work as an integral member of a team, demonstrate leadership qualities and have the skills and knowledge to manage a project. Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships essential to the position. Person must be able to develop, implement and promote innovative student services and supportive learning resources and programs.
