Responsibilities:

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) at Northeastern University invites nominations and applications from leading scholars for the position of advanced assistant, associate or full professor to begin in Fall 2018, in the area(s) of urban sociology, race and ethnic relations, and/or social networks. The department especially seeks candidates whose profile lends to the diversity of the faculty and areas of expertise. The department currently has 28 tenured or tenure-track faculty members, several of whom are jointly appointed with the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, the Bouve College of Health Sciences, or the School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs. Sociology faculty also direct Northeastern's International Affairs Program, the Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies Program, the Institute for Urban Health Research and Practice, and the Social Science Environmental Health Research Institute. The department offers undergraduate degree programs in Sociology and Cultural Anthropology, as well as MA and PhD degrees in Sociology.
The successful candidate will have a distinguished scholarly record and demonstrated potential for excellence in leadership. Cross-departmental appointments within CSSH are possible, as are cross-college appointments. The successful candidate will support the University's commitment to innovation and interdisciplinary research and teaching as well as the department's other areas of strength in globalization, gender, environment, and health. The position will support the University's commitment to innovation in teaching as well as the Department of Sociology and Anthropology's commitment to creating and translating knowledge to meet global and societal needs. Candidates should have demonstrated commitment to fostering diverse and inclusive environments as well as to promoting experiential learning, which are central to a Northeastern University education.

Qualifications:

A PhD in Sociology or a closely-related field required.
