Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job

The Department of Sociology at Sam Houston State University announces an opening for a nine-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2018. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, maintain an active research agenda, and provide service to the university and the discipline. We are primarily interested in candidates who have a research focus on community sociology, with the ability to teach sociological methods.

Educational Requirements for the Position

PhD in sociology must be in hand by the date of appointment.

Experience Required for the Position

Applicants must have a research agenda leading to publications in refereed journals and the potential to acquire extramural funding. Evidence of excellence (or the promise of excellence) in teaching effectiveness is also required.

Other Requirements for the Position

The department offers several undergraduate courses online and the Masters of Arts program is completely online. Accordingly, the successful candidate will be expected to teach at least one online course per year, in addition to teaching in-person courses.
