Summary of Position:

Reporting to the Department Chair for Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Level, Literacy and Special Education (EEMLS) Department, the Out of Area Lecturer position will provide crucial supervision of field work and lab experiences for students enrolled in co-requisite online lecture courses in the EEMLS Department. The Lecturer will work with principals, directors and teachers in public schools and approved learning agencies to facilitate learning experiences and conduct assessments in classes and through the internship semester. The position may include online instruction of elementary courses (undergraduate and/or graduate level).
The successful applicant will need to:
• Teach four courses or course equivalents per semester, with an emphasis on school based field experiences at the elementary level
• Support students in licensure requirements, including but not limited to edTPA processes and procedures
• Participate in the development of off campus-based, online courses
• Attend department and program meetings as scheduled from a remote setting
• Participate in the planning and implementation of field-based programs
• Assist in ongoing program revision and development, particularly as it relates to out of area students

Minimum Requirements:
Master’s degree in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
Priority consideration will be given to applicants with: a Ph.D. in elementary education or a related field, evidence of public school and college level teaching excellence, knowledge of and eligibility for North Carolina licensure in the appropriate area, including edTPA processes and procedures, and a strong commitment to and experience with P-12 partnership approaches. This position requires extensive travel commitments and a valid North Carolina driving license is required.

The Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, Literacy and Special Education is a community of professional educators dedicated to the preparation of teachers and other professionals who have the knowledge, skills and dispositions to work with children from early childhood through middle grades, students with special needs and their families. It values the integration of current theory, research and professional expertise from multiple disciplines and perspectives to inform practices that enable all learners to reach their full potential.
The department provides opportunities for students to develop as educational leaders and advocates for the children and families they serve. It develops, implements and coordinates programs leading to undergraduate degrees and/or licensure in birth through kindergarten education, elementary, middle grades and special education (general and adapted tracks) as well as graduate degrees and/or licensure in elementary, middle grades and language and literacy.

The Watson College of Education (WCE) (www.uncw.edu/ed) is a growing college with over 60 tenure-track faculty members working in undergraduate and master’s programs in the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, Literacy and Special Education and the Department of Instructional Technology, Foundations and Secondary Education, and master’s and doctoral programs in the Department of Educational Leadership.
