Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Under general supervision, reporting to the Director of Data Services, the Business Intelligence Developer is responsible to document, design, develop, test and implement complex reporting, scripts, bulk loads, extracts and other software solutions to new or existing systems according to project plans, business requirements and specifications. Works collaboratively with business users verbally and through written communications to understand and translate reporting objectives and business requirements into technical specifications, report design and code. Writes code that is traceable to business requirements, design and technical specifications. Works with the Director of Data Services to analyze and investigate complex reporting requirements and coordinates with requesters to clarify details of the reporting request. Uses SQL or MDX/DAX to develop logic for the requested reports. Designs solutions using Microsoft BI stack (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS) or Power BI to publish on central SharePoint site. Works closely with Director of Data Services, peers and Line of Business (LOB) managers to verify quality of report produced. Consults requester on report definition, collaborates on accuracy of the work performed compared to the requirements delivered.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology Systems or related field and 3 years related experience; or equivalency.
Experienced application level knowledge of capabilities, programming techniques, and intricacies of information systems. This position is required to travel overnight to conferences, work evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years of technical development experience, preferably in nonprofit or higher education. Graduate degree is preferred. Proven experience assisting with technical management of an applications portfolio i.e., ability to translate operational technical needs into complete, deliverable solutions and ensure client acceptance. Enterprise CRM experience is preferred, familiarity with Millennium donor database or other nonprofit and/or higher education is a plus. Microsoft certifications in SQL and/or SharePoint.

Complex MSSQL/T-SQL (stored procedures, views, queries)
Design and development experience using Microsoft's Business intelligence stack preferred (SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SharePoint.

Knowledge of other reporting/dashboards tool like Power BI, Tableau and Qlik.


Candidate should possess professional level experience leading BI application development, BI solution support and good understanding of Advancement CRM and Donor Management System in Higher Education Institution Advancement/ Development environment.
Ability to handle multiple, simultaneous tasks, and excellent attention to detail. Excellent analytical skills required. Ability to travel overnight to conferences, work evenings and weekends, as required.
