Degree and Area of Specialization:
Requires a clinician with significant and increasingly responsible leadership experience in a relevant health care setting with a strong public/population health orientation. An MD or DO is preferred; other advanced practice clinicians will also be considered.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to lead a comprehensive health organization that responds to constituents needs effectively and promotes a healthy community environment through prevention strategies and health promotion programs. They should also have a high level of cultural competence and the ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and communities. Successful candidates should demonstrate substantial progressive professional experience and senior leadership experience in a student health, public health, and/or other clinical setting within a health care-related field, agency, or center.
Candidates should also have a record of success in program development, strategic planning, and administration, including management of both clinical service delivery and public/population health programs.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in a college health care setting who demonstrate a working knowledge of student health care trends including health disparities, public health including environmental and occupational health, and the ability to work collaboratively and collegially with campus and community partners to improve student/population health.
License or certificate:
Health care providers must be eligible for licensure to practice in Wisconsin. Board certification required if applicable.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications and nominations for the position of Executive Director of
University Health Services (UHS). The Executive Director serves as the chief health officer for the campus and provides innovative patient- and population-focused leadership and vision on health-related issues. This position reports to the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration and leads the UHS senior management team in providing overall direction, design, and implementation of the programs, policies, initiatives, and special projects of UHS. Seven management positions report directly to the Executive Director: Director of Medical Services, two Co-Directors of Mental Health Services, Director of Environmental and Occupational Health Services, Director of Marketing and Prevention Services, Director of Quality, and Director of Administrative Services.
One of the first university health services founded in the U.S., UHS has been nationally recognized as one of the top health services in the country and is a leader regionally and nationally in the field of college health. UHS administers an annual budget of approximately $18 million to provide medical, mental health, environmental and occupational health, and prevention health programs to a university community with an enrollment of more than 41,000 students and 16,000 employees. It is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
This is a full-time, 12-month appointment. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. A generous benefits package is offered through the State of Wisconsin. A criminal background investigation will be conducted for the finalist(s).
