The Department of Pediatrics Division of Pediatric Nephrology at the University of Virginia and University of Virginia Children's Hospital seeks candidates with strong academic stature and leadership ability for the position of Division Head. This open track position will have clinical, teaching, research and administrative responsibilities. Salary, rank, and tenure status are dependent upon qualifications and experience.
Candidates must have an MD or DO degree and be board-certified in pediatric nephrology. To be considered for a tenured position, candidates must demonstrate scholarship and excellence in two domains consistent with the requirements for tenure in the School of Medicine. Demonstration of scholarship of application, synthesis, discovery or education is also required.
The Division of Pediatric Nephrology is a strong clinical and research division, ranked in the top 50 programs by US News and World Report in 2015. The Division is composed of senior and junior faculty and trainees with diverse research interests spanning basic, translational, and clinical research. Active research projects include study of renal development, detection of and mechanisms of damage in AKI, actions of nephrotoxic drugs as well as clinical trials to advance knowledge of disease and treatment relevant to the pediatric nephrology community.
The University of Virginia Medical Center and Children's Hospital are located in the midst of the main university grounds of the University of Virginia. The University of Virginia is annually ranked as one of the premier public institutions in the United States and is located in Charlottesville, a picturesque, small but cosmopolitan city perennially ranked as one of the best places to live in the U.S. The Department of Pediatrics is extremely collegial and collaborative. The Division of Pediatric Nephrology is currently comprised of 3 clinical full time board certified nephrologists and an internationally recognized laboratory focused on renal development. The division has 2 nurse clinicians and works closely with dedicated social workers, dieticians, an education specialist, and the UVA Renal Unit and Transplant program. We have an active acute and chronic dialysis service, including peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis and CRRT, and we are equipped to perform apheresis for pediatric patients for both acute and chronic indications. The Division of Pediatric nephrology has a long-standing and active ACGME-accredited fellowship program with a track record for generating clinician scientists and academicians. The Division has outstanding collaborative working relationships with our general pediatricians, as well as other pediatric subspecialists, surgical colleagues and colleagues in adult nephrology.
