Posting Summary:
The Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy at the University of Virginia seeks an experienced Director of External Affairs with a creative and entrepreneurial mindset toward building a newly conceived external affairs portfolio for the School. The protfolio will include admissions, marketing and communications, and outreach and engagement operations across the Batten School.

The Director of External Affairs reports to the Dean, serves on the School's senior leadership team, and leads all aspects of the School's admissions processes, marketing and communications, and regularly engages directly with a broad range of stakeholders across public policy and leadership communities in Charlottesville and beyond. The Director of External Affairs leads a team of five professional staff members.

The ideal candidate will have superior oral and written communication skills, outstanding interpersonal skills, demonstrated passion for the fields of college admissions, communications, and public policy, the ability to prepare and make high quality written and oral presentations, and be comfortable working autonomously on complex and ambiguous tasks and projects. Success in this position will require flexibility, open-mindendness, and creativity.

Candidates must have an earned Bachelor's degree (advanced degree preferred), 8 years of professional experience with at least 4 years in higher education, experience supervising and leading staff, and direct experience in college admissions and familiarity with the principles of marketing and communications. Success recruiting minority and underrepresented applicants to a professional school and an understanding of university systems and processes are preferred. Candidates will embrace technology as an enabler and be able to articulate forward-looking, creative opportunities to leverage technology and data anaytics in this role. Some travel as well as occasional night and weekend work are required.
