Posting Summary:
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the group of Prof. Andreas Gahlmann to perform research in the area of super-resolution optical microscopy, correlative light-electron microscopy, and bacterial cell biology. This is a one-year appointment; however, the appointment may be renewed for two additional one-year terms, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.

Completion of the PhD degree in the physical, life, or engineering sciences or a related discipline is required by appointment start date. Researchers with expertise in one or more of the following areas are especially encouraged to apply:
-Advanced and super-resolution optical microscopy techniques
-In situ cryo-electron tomography
-Computational image processing, data analysis, and instrument automation
-Biochemistry
-Molecular and cell biology.

Candidates must possess a proven ability to work independently in the laboratory, formulate novel scientific questions, and produce and publish high-quality scientific results. Research projects in the Gahlmann laboratory are highly interdisciplinary. Thus candidates must have strong organizational and communication skills and be able to effectively engage with other group members and outside collaborators. Candidates are also expected to provide a leadership role within the laboratory as a mentor for both graduate and undergraduate students.
