Posting Summary:
The Curry School of Education seeks applicants for a non-tenure track Research Faculty member in the Department of Educational Leadership, Foundations, and Policy and the Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL). Rank is dependent upon qualifications.

The incumbent collaborates with Amanda Williford, providing leadership to the Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program ( and developing research projects using data collected through this statewide initiative. The incumbent also collaborates with Sara Rimm-Kaufman and others at CASTL on projects addressing applied developmental questions in classroom and school contexts. Projects include: supporting school districts across the state of Virginia in their implementation of preschool to third grade assessments, practices, and policies; teacher-student interactions and children's engagement in math and science instruction in elementary school classrooms; and examining the development of self-regulatory skills in early and middle childhood. The incumbent is also expected to conduct a successful independent program of research as evidenced by publications in refereed journals and sponsored research, and exhibit a commitment to diversity and equity through their scholarship and service. Possibility of teaching based on need, load availability, and mutual agreement between successful candidate, Department Chair, and CASTL Director. This appointment is contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding.

A Ph.D. in Education, Psychology, or a related field is required, as is at least two years' experience in planning and implementing educational and/or applied developmental research related to early childhood; student experience will be considered. Experience conducting and managing longitudinal and/or experimental research using psychological measures, surveys, interviews, and classroom observations is also required. Experience with mixed methods and qualitative data collection is preferred. A track record of contributing as part of a multi-disciplinary team to large grant proposals is essential, as is a record of scholarship and publishing within the fields of psychology and education. A track record of extramural funding is preferred. The use of rigorous methods to conduct research on pressing educational problems in U.S. education, particularly related to children's development and learning in PreK and elementary settings is preferred.

Expertise in school-based interventions, research-practice partnerships, the implementation of evidence-based practices at scale, and/or teacher development is required. Strong methodological expertise, including skills in the management and analysis of longitudinal, multi-level, school-based data is essential. Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, collaboration, and communication skills are a must, as are the ability to employ strong organizational and time management skills, ability to work independently and with a diverse team, ability to deliver high quality results, and meet regular deadlines.
