Posting Summary:
The University of Virginia Department of Chemistry invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the group of Assistant Professor Sen Zhang. The field of study will be development of electrocatalysts and heterogeneous catalysts for energy storage and conversion applications with a focus on the chemistry of small molecules: water, hydrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide and methane. The projects are highly collaborative with materials science and chemical engineering groups, including collaborations within the MAXNET Energy consortium. This is a one-year appointment; however appointments may be renewed for an additional two, one-year increments, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.

The completion of a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related field is required by the starting date of the appointment. Candidates are expected to have experience in nanoscience, materials chemistry, electrochemistry, and/or heterogeneous catalysis. The incumbent must have strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills to collaborate with groups inside and outside of the University of Virginia. Thus, candidates must have effective oral and written communication skills. Candidates are also expected to play a leadership role in the laboratory as a mentor for both graduate and undergraduate students.
