The Department of Biology at the University of Virginia invites candidates for a Research Associate (postdoctoral) position in the Lab of Dr. Cristian Danna. The position will study a novel plant defense mechanism as well as mechanism(s) that microbial pathogens use to overturn it. The project takes multidisciplinary approaches using Arabidopsis thaliana and crops, including but not limited to high-throughput genetic screens, genome-wide association, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics.
The candidate must have strong motivation to learn and succeed as an independent scientist, strong background in gene cloning and gene expression analysis, experience in fluorescence microscopy, all of which must be reflected in his/her current publication record in peer-reviewed journals. Effective oral and written communication skills are required. A Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related fields by the appointment start-date is required. Experience in plant molecular biology, metabolite chemical analyses (liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry), CRISPR/Cas9 technologies and RNA next generation sequencing technologies are preferred.
