Posting Summary:
The Department of Surgery and Division of Acute Care Surgery and Outcomes Research at the University of Virginia seeks applications for a full-time tenure-eligible or tenure-ineligible faculty position with a focus in trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care. The incumbent is responsible for the clinical care of patients with acute surgical illness and the education of medical students and postgraduate trainees.

Scholarly achievement is expected of this individual with the goal of furthering our knowledge in this field. Rank and tenure status are dependent upon qualification and experience. To be considered for the tenure-eligible position, candidates must have a clear academic plan and/or demonstrated excellence in research and the generation of new knowledge.

Candidates must be board-certified in general surgery and critical care with a minimum of 2 years in an active practice of critical care. Experience as a faculty leader in intensive care or trauma, in surgical critical care fellowship direction and as an ATLS course director is highly preferred. Candidates must have a strong interest in a career in academic medicine.

The University of Virginia has an ACGME accredited General Surgery Residency program and a fellowship in Critical Care. UVa is located in beautiful Charlottesville at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains with easy driving access to the Atlantic coast and the nation's capital.
