Working Title: Research Associate
Position Type: Teaching and Research Faculty
Department: Department of Chemistry
Posting Date: 09-09-2014
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia seeks a highly motivated and qualified postdoctoral research associate interested in chemical biology and lipid signaling in the immune system.
Research associates will engage in cutting-edge, multidisciplinary research that integrates synthesis of small-molecule probes with mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics for pathophysiological analyses of enzyme-disrupted cells and animals. Research associates will receive training in chemoproteomics, lipid biochemistry, in vivo pharmacology, and mass spectrometry. Specific project areas include design, synthesis, and evaluation of small molecules targeting lipid metabolism and signaling in inflammatory disorders, as well as development of novel small molecule- and cell-based immunotherapies in cancer.
The Department of Chemistry is located within walking distance from the School of Medicine at UVa providing a unique environment to carry out basic discovery research with a strong translational focus. Research associates will have ample opportunities to expand their training through collaborations with clinical scientists and physicians at the NCI-designated Cancer Center, Cardiovascular Research Center, and Carter Immunology Center in the medical school.
Completion of a PhD degree in Chemistry or related discipline is required at time of appointment. Published expertise in synthetic chemistry, chemical biology, bioorganic chemistry, or immunology is strongly preferred.
