Posting Summary:
The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Virginia is seeking a Laboratory Specialist to conduct experimental work in the laboratory of Dr. Ira Schulman. The Schulman lab focuses on the regulation of transcription by members of the nuclear hormone receptor superfamily. Daily experimental procedures will require the ability to master techniques in molecular biology, physiology, pharmacology and biochemistry. The successful candidate will assist the investigator with in vitro cell culture systems and in vivo experiments in mouse models of metabolic disease. The individual will be expected to develop and execute assays to isolate nucleic acids and proteins from cells and animal tissues, perform chromatin precipitation, and make libraries for next-generation sequencing. The candidate will also participate in studies to characterize lipoprotein particles isolated from mice by mass spectrometry.

This is a non-exempt position, eligible to earn overtime. This position is scheduled for 40 hours per week; willing to consider a part-time schedule of 20-40 hours per week. This position is restricted and has funding for one year. Continuation of the position is contingent upon continued funding as well as performance.

Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related science, and a minimum of three years of laboratory experience. Experience gained as a student may be considered. Proficiency with computer software, including Word, Power Point and Excel is expected. Previous experience with RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, flow cytometry, lipid mass spectroscopy and/or mouse models is preferred, but not required.
