The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia invites candidates, excited for the opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative research environment, to apply for a Research Scientist position. The incumbent will perform research to develop sensors for in vivo neurochemical measurements and apply that technology to understanding the neurochemical changes in the brain during diseases such as stroke.
Completion of a Ph.D. in Chemistry or Neuroscience or a related discipline is required. Candidates must have effective oral and written communication skills and at least 4 years experience with (a) electrochemical sensors, ideally with experience in voltammetric determination of neurotransmitters and (b) in vivo experiments, ideally with experience in rodent brain surgery. Candidates must be capable of providing leadership in the lab and guiding graduate and undergraduate students in their research projects.
