The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Scientist to work in the laboratory of Prof. Ariel Gomez. The incumbent will conduct studies investigating renin cell fate in the kidney vasculature, particularly the interaction of the renin gene regulatory sequences with other genes in the genome, the chromatin modifications responsible for the phenotype of renin cells and the transcriptional factories/gene-gene interactions responsible for the renin cells phenotype. Additional duties will include writing and preparing manuscripts for scientific publication, participation in lab meetings, teaching other members of the lab, and active collaboration with other researchers.
Candidates must have an MD and/or PhD, publications in peer-reviewed journals and more than three years' postdoctoral experience. The candidate must have demonstrated expertise in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, histology, cell culture and mouse work.
The Candidates must work independently and ethically, document all research data, and publish data in qualified journals. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. The candidates should demonstrate potential to be trained as an independent investigator.
