The Curriculum and Instruction Department prepares students for many careers in education. CIED offers majors and concentrations in career and technical education, childhood/elementary education, educational leadership, educational technology, secondary education, special education, school administration, and gifted and talented education.

Summary of Job Duties

This position is a tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position will be expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities: (1) teach graduate and undergraduate level courses in elementary/childhood education, including elementary math methods and STEM project-based mathematics; (2) conduct research projects both individually and in collaboration with other faculty; (3) publish the results of scholarship in refereed venues; (4) obtain external funding to support research and curriculum development endeavors; (5) participate in student advisement and mentoring, including service on graduate student advisory and dissertation committees; and (6) provide service to the department, college, university, community, and profession.

Minimum Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate from a nationally recognized university in Elementary/Childhood Education, Mathematics Education, or a closely related field that must be conferred by the start of employment
  • Interest in teaching in the areas of elementary mathematics education, foundations of teaching and learning, STEM/project-based learning, and content area methods
  • Scholarly presentations and/or publications in the areas of mathematics education, teacher development, or related disciplinary areas
  • Teaching experience at the K-6 level

Preferred Qualifications
  • Documented evidence of successful teaching at College/University level
  • Elementary mathematics education teaching methods experience
  • Documented evidence of proficiency in mathematics
  • Evidence of the pursuit of external funding or interest in the pursuit of grant funding
  • Documentation of ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
  • Experience in field-based teacher development program offered by a College/University
  • Experience working in diverse settings and with students from diverse cultures
  • Documented evidence of positive professional relationships with the elementary school community
  • Experience collaborating with the K-12 educational community
  • Knowledge of and experience integrating the STEM disciplines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
