Department of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Science (EOAS)
The Department of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Science (EOAS) at Florida State University is seeking meteorology or physical oceanography applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with a target start date of August 2018 (although start dates in early 2019 will be considered).
The successful applicant will be expected to develop a vigorous, externally-funded and internationally visible research program, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or its equivalent in Meteorology, Oceanography, or a closely related field.
Priority will be given to candidates with expertise in modeling or data assimilation, and particularly candidates that also emphasize fundamental dynamics or physics of the atmosphere, ocean, or climate as part of their research.
The EOAS department presently has 45 faculty members and has strong ties with the on-campus National Weather Service, the Center for Ocean-Atmosphere Prediction Studies, the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Institute, and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory which allows for a wide range of collaborations. The Research Computing Center (RCC) of FSU provides extensive state-of-the-art High Performance Computing resources in which EOAS has invested heavily for their faculty use. EOAS has been undergoing rapid growth over the past few years, and construction on a new EOAS building on campus is well underway.
