This position directs the development and implementation of short-and long-term sales and marketing strategies to achieve maximum growth for the Press. As part of the senior management team, this position participates fully in all decisions related to the direction and focus of our publishing program. Overseeing a department of four, this position handles sales, vendor relations and recommendations, and detailed business intelligence and reporting. This individual will also take the lead in identifying and recommending new business development opportunities.
With the department, develop and implement innovative marketing and sales plans including print, digital and social media strategies, exhibits, advertising and publicity.
Prepare annual sales forecasts and re-forecasts; manage departmental budgets; and prepare monthly sales reports detailing dollar and unit sales, sales by type, sales by vendor, sales by series and subject area, etc.
Manage key accounts; prepare metadata and present seasonal lists to national wholesale and retail buyers, as well as major national media; oversee commissioned sales forces, both domestic and international; negotiate contracts with sales agents; and manage relationship with Johns Hopkins University Press (HFS), the Press's distributor.
Work with the acquisitions department to discuss and review manuscripts and editorial proposals, cooperatively developing individual projects and analyzing individual publishing programs.
Manage inventory and reprint program; work with vendors on supply chain issues.
Develop and maintain relationships with authors, University of Kentucky and consortium faculty, university administrators and external partners, as well as oversee special projects and initiatives related to the Press and to these partners.
Effectively hire, supervise, and develop marketing staff.
