The Centre for Industrial Relations and Human Resources in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment in International Industrial Relations / Human Resources. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will commence on July 1, 2018.

Research and teaching expertise in at least one of the following areas is required: labour relations, human resource management, the sociology of work, labour market policy, labor and employment standards, corporate responsibility/sustainability and compliance, trade/global supply chains, quantitative methods for labour/HR or another related employment relations field. Also required, experience in teaching professional students in internationally recognized programs. Preference will be given to applicants with an international focus to their research and more than one area of IR/HR expertise.

Applicants must have earned a PhD in industrial relations or a cognate social science discipline by the date of appointment or shortly thereafter and demonstrate excellence in research and teaching. Evidence of excellence in teaching, in particular teaching professional students in internationally recognized programs, will be demonstrated by strong letters of reference, teaching evaluations, teaching statement, dossier and / or syllabi submitted as part of the application. Evidence of research excellence will be demonstrated by publications in top ranked journals in the relevant field or a research pipeline that is at high international levels, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, research statement and strong endorsement by referees of top international stature.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Centre for Industrial Relations and Human Resources is internationally renowned for the study of work and employment relations from a variety of disciplinary perspectives and empirical approaches. Historically, faculty with strong empirical methods and backgrounds in economics, management, sociology, history, law, psychology and political science have been actively engaged in employment / industrial relations research and teaching. We therefore welcome applications from scholars interested in employment relations from those and other relevant backgrounds.

The successful candidate will teach in both the undergraduate and graduate programs and will be expected to develop an independently funded program of research. Candidates must be able to teach a selection of courses in industrial relations/human resources and must have strong communication skills as well as demonstrated success in developing students' mastery of a subject and of the latest developments in the field. Our PhD program is quantitatively and analytically oriented, as such these skills would be expected for involvement in the program including supervision once tenure has been achieved.
