HR SPECIALIST

Occupational Summary
This position supports the Duke Cancer Institute's (DCI) HR team and it's School of Medicine Staff.

Responsibilities and Expectations
Transactional
Responsible for entering pay, leave and position transactions; both paper and SAP (iForms).

Databases
Responsible for maintaining the HR databases for employees, positions and org charts. Tracking certifications and license renewals and following up with managers and staff as needed.

Administrative
Responsible for maintaining electronic and paper personnel files.
Responsible for answering and tracking emails sent to the HR Outlook account.

Miscellaneous
Attend staff meetings, conferences and trainings as assigned.
And other work as assigned.

Skills
  1. Excellent written, oral and conversational communication skills to effectively work with diverse groups.
  2. Excellent time management skills needed to prioritize among many competing priorities.
  3. Mastery of Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel; Access is a plus.

Preferences
The preferred candidate will have 3 to 5 years of administrative experience with a personnel focus with 2 years of experience using Duke Systems such as SAP and be a certified Duke payroll representative.

Education/Training
Work requires knowledge of basic communications, research and mathematical principles normally acquired through a high school education.

Experience
Work requires the ability to review, maintain, research, and report on human resource and payroll information/activities generally acquired through five years of related experience: OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
