Job Description Summary:

The Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) at the George Washington University is seeking an Assistant Director of Development for the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS). DAR is responsible for leading the university's alumni and fundraising efforts. DAR seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients and other friends. Our goal is to advance GW's mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care.

Development staff help connect the passions of our alumni and supporters with the aspirations of our students and faculty. Collectively, the staff engages GW's more than 270,000 alumni located around the world and offers ways to connect with others in the network, stay current with campus news and information and volunteer and give back to the university.

The Assistant Director of Development, CCAS will serve as the primary liaison between the CCAS development team and his/her portfolio of alumni, parents and friends of the university. Reporting to the Director of Development, this position partners with deans, faculty and central and school based development staff to meet fundraising goals, execute events, and build affinity in support of philanthropic priorities.

This position also works with the CCAS Director of Development and Assistant Vice President of Development to devise and execute a strategy to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward gifts in an assigned portfolio of approximately 150 prospects, both locally (DMV area) and nationally, for major gifts ranging from $50,000 and above in support of CCAS. This position will average 10-12 prospect visits monthly. This will entail collaborating closely with CCAS Office of Development and Alumni Relations as well as the central university development office to increase donor engagement and maximize annual, major, and planned gift potential.

The Assistant Director of Development will also assist the Alumni Relations team by supporting events and driving an alumni audience to CCAS related activities with the intention of identifying prospects and cultivating donors, while working closely with CCAS faculty and staff to gain a strong knowledge and understanding of the academic and research programs taking place throughout the school.

This position will also be responsible for data management of their portfolio to ensure accurate prospect tracking of stage progression, contact reports, proposals, philanthropic capacity/inclination and biographical data through our prospect relationship management system (Ellucian Advance). This requires using various reporting tools to monitor prospect data and acting as an active partner with the Research and Relationship Management Team in prospect tracking and data integrity.

This position requires performing other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 1 year of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to solicit new prospects, including making cold calls.

Ability to travel locally and nationally when necessary and to work on occasional evenings and weekends.

Adept at handling sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner.
