Youth Care Worker

Henry House - Group Home Intensive

Location: Philadelphia, PA


Henry House Youth Workers (part time shifts) are responsible for providing direct supervision and care of residents who are in custodial placement as mandated by Family Court and the Youth Study Center of Philadelphia. They will be accountable for the supervision, care and safety of youth placed in CBDS through the strict adherence to established policies and procedures. Monitors youth behavior and maintains awareness of residents' emotional and physical needs. Maintains group control and watches for signs of withdrawal, disturbances, AWOL plans, problems and issues. Controls noise levels, behavior and diffuses potentially escalating situations through the application of verbal de-escalating techniques.


• High School Diploma

• Minimum of two years working with at-risk youth, preferably in a residential setting

• A current driver's license and clean driving record

• Ability to work an eight-hour work day with a possibility of working up to 16 hour shifts during emergency situations

• Ability to speak English clearly and hear voice in conversational tone

• Favorable Pennsylvania Child Abuse History; Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record and FBI Criminal Background Clearances


• Communicate effectively with other shifts, supervisors, support staff, case managers, and Unit Director.

• Maintain security, order and approved discipline techniques to prevent disturbances, escapes and to insure the safety of residents, staff and the community.

• Generate and maintain required documentation prior to leaving the facility at the end of the assigned shift.

• Maintain and enforce security procedures. Resolves differences amongst residents, and intervenes in youth altercations.

• Conduct personal property and physical resident searches according to prescribed guidelines.

• Monitors visiting hours and visitors, insuring authorization and the prevention of contraband passing into the facility

• Provides counseling consistent with regulatory guidelines for assigned residents

• Provides crisis intervention, follow-up counseling and necessary documentation to any resident as needed

• Effectively plans for and arranges for residents' program involvement.

• Transports clients as deemed necessary
