Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

The School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management (HRTM) in the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management (HRSM) is seeking applications for the position of Chef Instructor. The search committee welcomes inquiries from both experienced Chef Instructors as well as working Chefs in the industry who possess expertise in training others. The successful candidate will teach a full academic load (4 courses) in Fall and Spring semesters, as well as two courses in the summer sessions. Courses are undergraduate-level and taught within the School's quality food laboratory facilities. The Chef Instructor is expected to have a passion for culinary art, a proven record of teaching/training others, event coordination, and a strong record of excellence in quality food service. Other related duties will be assigned as deemed necessary.

Required Education and Experience

MA Degree in Hospitality/Tourism or closely related field, accompanied with a minimum three (3) years back-house culinary experience, with at least two (2) years at the supervisory-managerial-level. Restaurant and/or Food Service industry experience must be full-service or similar establishments where high quality food production is evident. Broad-based knowledge of all aspects of hot and cold food preparation, quantity food production techniques, and food service safety/sanitation is required. Demonstrated commitment to student-centered learning and excellence in teaching is required.

Preferred Qualifications

MA Degree in Hospitality/Tourism or closely related field, accompanied with a minimum five (5) years back-house culinary experience, with at least three (3) years at the supervisory-managerial-level. Excellent skills in communication, management, and leadership. The ability to collaborate with HRTM faculty on food service research, as well as the ability to provide service and/or industry connections to the school, college and university.
