Nature of Work:

A Professional Research Assistant position is available immediately in the Proenza lab in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics and the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical campus seeks creative, independent and motivated research scientists for NIH-funded projects to study cardiac pacemaking and HCN channel biophysics.

Projects in the lab include understanding the responses of the sinoatrial node to physiological challenges such as aging, disease and exercise training, identification of novel HCN4 channel regulators, and delineation of signaling microdomains in sinoatrial myocytes. Major techniques include patch clamp electrophysiology, biochemistry and proteomics, and computational modeling.

  • The individual will report directly to Dr. Cathy Proenza.

  • This position may supervise students in the future.


Example of Work:
  • Contribute to experimental design, data acquisition and analysis
  • Troubleshoot protocols and equipment and contribute to development of new techniques
  • Microsurgery and cell culture
  • Mouse husbandry, ordering, reagent preparation

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A BA in neuroscience, psychology, biology, engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution is required
  • Must be willing and able to work with mice


Required Competencies: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Fast learner with good hands and excellent organizational skills
  • Self-motivated, creative problem solver
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a collaborative team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (fluent in written and spoken English)


Preferred Qualifications:
  • MA in neuroscience, psychology, biology, engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution
  • Expertise in one of the following areas strongly preferred: patch clamp electrophysiology, biochemistry and proteomics, FRET, Ca2+ imaging.
