The Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto invites applications for a tenure-stream position at the rank of Associate Professor in user experience design and human computer interaction. The position start date is July 1, 2018.
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct innovative research at the highest international level and to maintain an outstanding, externally funded research program. The successful candidate must display evidence of excellence in research. Evidence of excellence in research should be demonstrated by a record of sustained contributions and publications in leading presses and in leading journals in the field, presentations at significant conferences, and strong endorsements by referees themselves of high international standing. The successful candidate will be considered for the positions of Director of the Knowledge Media Design Institute and the BUL Chair in Human Computer Interaction.
Candidates are expected to have a PhD in human-computer interaction (HCI), User Experience Design, or a related field. We seek individuals who have an excellent research record in HCI. Relevant areas of research include user interface methods and design, theoretical foundations of HCI, requirements engineering, and usability evaluation. The successful candidate should have a proven record of scholarship, experience with working across faculties/departments and disciplines, evidence of excellence in teaching demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, a sustained record of graduate supervision, the teaching dossier and the teaching statement submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference and should possess the ability and ambition to advance our Faculty's rigorous, highly-ranked Master's of Information program. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research in the Faculty of Information and the Knowledge Media Design Institute, which is an interdisciplinary unit of the Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto. The Collaborative Program in Knowledge Media Design offers an interdisciplinary specialization to a regular departmental degree program. While not required, prior administrative experience relevant to leading a research institute would be favourably considered.
