Postdoctoral Fellow Jimeno Lab

Nature of Work: Now recruiting for a full-time postdoctoral research fellow position that is immediately available to work for an Immunology / Humanized Models postdoctoral fellowship program. This position is offered through the (Medicine) Division of Medical Oncology within a cancer research laboratory located at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado. The position's primary duties are to conduct research and is not involved in the instructional program. The position is not eligible for tenure and is exempt from overtime compensation.

Working title: Immunology/Humanized Model Postdoctoral Fellow

Duties and Responsibilities: The position is a postdoctoral fellow position and will be responsible for the research projects in the areas of related to Oncology /Immunology /Molecular Biology with oversight but minimal daily supervision. Professional fields of Humanized models and stem cell biology.

There will be an emphasis in the following projects:

  • Generating humanized animal models for in vivo immunology studies and immuno-oncology drug development;
  • Characterizing tumor-stroma interactions utilizing patient-derived animal models as well as ex vivo models for the study of human cancer;
  • Processing and management of patient tissue samples (PBMC's, serum, normal tissues, tumor tissues) obtained from tissue banking and phase I/II clinical trials.


Examples of Work Performed, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Specific duties include cell line maintenance, in vitro efficacy testing, proliferation testing, protein/mRNA/DNA extraction, processing and analysis; in vivo model generation with a focus in humanized models, cell line implantation, animal treatment, support for animal xenograft models, animal husbandry, animal imaging, necropsy and tissue harvesting, and execution of molecular assays for tumor cell proliferation and metastasis; cancer stem cell isolation and analysis, gene interference and stable colony generation; gene-expression and genomic-based platform use and understanding. Participation in research meetings, case conferences, team meetings, weekly individual supervision. Completes all necessary research recordkeeping and documentation and timely data entry. Performs other related research duties and procedures, including special research projects as directed.

Highlights: immunology, in vivo, and/or cell imaging expertise will be highly valued. Gene cloning, insertion, and manipulation, and bioinformatics knowledge will be valued. Transgenic model generation not required, however will be valued.

Working conditions; the position requires 100% effort working within the secured research laboratory. Note; occasional working in the evening or working on weekends may be required and reviewed on a project-by-project basis within the research laboratory, PI/Faculty discussion will be in place prior to these efforts.

The position will require research laboratory bench work skills, moderate lifting of research laboratory supplies, handing of research laboratory animals and good hand to eye coordination. Cell culture, biochemistry and molecular expertise required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Biology, Chemistry or other related discipline.
  • Recent Ph.D. graduates and newly experienced researchers are both encouraged to apply for this postdoctoral fellow position.
  • Prior successful experience working with research laboratory animals, working knowledge using a wide range of molecular and cellular biology techniques. The lab position involves strong communications skills and thorough knowledge and proficiency of computer programs including Internet and proficient use of MS Office software, and demonstrated experience managing computer databases.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior research laboratory experience using the above techniques. Ability to handle and process detail-oriented documentation and meet designated research deadlines. Must be team-oriented, flexible, and able to communicate and possess the ability to work independently and effectively. The final candidate will be self-motivated, reliable and willing to learn new research techniques.
