Occupational Summary

Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting laboratory tests, experiments and data interpretation in support of Duke University research operations.

Work Performed

This position will be primarily working with genetically modified and immune-compromised mice to identify pathways required for tumor growth and metastasis. This grant-funded one-year position has an anticipated start date in October, 2017, and will require excellent record keeping and attention to detail.
Duties will include: basic animal husbandry (breeding, genotyping) tumor measurement, drug administration in rodents downstream processing (quantitative PCR, western blotting, histology) of preserved tissues, as well as analysis of signaling pathways (by western blotting, immune-fluorescence imaging). Prior experience in animal handling is required, with preference for experience with rodents. This position will require some experience in data management and record keeping, with experience in Excel being important. Additional duties may include: Prepare culture media, chemicals, reagents and solutions. Maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies and equipment for performance of duties clean and maintain laboratory equipment. Review work of lower level laboratory personnel within designated areas and assist in training new personnel.
