I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The W. Scott Amey Career Services Center provides professional development services, including career guidance to current School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) students and recent alumni in areas of resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile preparation, as well as interviewing skills, job market information, and job success practices. In addition to providing comprehensive career-related resources, the Center facilitates a professional development curriculum aimed at ensuring SEAS students are prepared to explore and pursue a range of employment options.

Reporting to the Associate Director, SEAS Career Services, the Career Counselor assists in managing five important areas related to Career Services with general supervision and direction: Career Development, Communications & Events, Advocacy and Metrics, Strategy and Management, and Support of Central Offices.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

Develops and manages career programming for SEAS student population, ranging in size and scope (e.g. targeted population professional development workshops, alumni and employer networking events).

Assists with employer outreach and relationship management to ensure quality of employment opportunities.

Assists employer development staff with planning and scheduling employer activities.

Builds and maintains relationships with offices on campus including the Central Career Services, Center for Student Engagement, Faculty, Alumni Relations, and Development as needed.

Assists in implementing communication plan between advising team and career services. The communications plan includes updating a website and other medium to help students relate coursework to career outcomes, preparing them best, and early on, for employment.

Participates in the hiring and selection process for student workers.

Manages office calendar and schedules office events.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in Career Development and/or student advising in a STEM related field.

Experience in higher education setting preferred.

International student advising a plus.

Knowledge of Gmail-based applications, Symplicity or other Customer Relationship Management application and social media sites.
