Job description


The Loyola University Chicago School of Social Work invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track position at the assistant or associate professor rank, expected to begin early August 2018.

Duties and Responsibilities

We seek applicants with teaching and research interests in one or more of the following areas: urban communities; multi-generational families; military social work; restorative & social justice; innovative engagement, assessment, intervention, and evaluation in practice across the life span in distressed families; kinship; child welfare; health disparities; criminal justice; juvenile justice. We encourage applicants whose research and teaching interests focus on the African-American/Black diaspora with an ability to engage in the experiences of other peoples of African descent and other communities of color. We would expect the successful candidate to be interested in teaching across programs (BSW, MSW, Ph.D.) and across at least two curricular domains (HBSE, practice, policy, and research). Prospective faculty are expected to teach weekdays, evenings, and/or some weekends at our satellite campus, and should be open to teaching in online/hybrid formats. Faculty have opportunities to develop pioneering CEU programs for life-long learning opportunities for our communities and alumna.


Candidates must have a record of funded research, scholarship and teaching appropriate for the University’s requirements for the rank being advertised. A Social Work degree at any level (BSW or MSW) and a Ph.D. degree in Social Work or a related field is required. (Promising ABD candidates are welcome to apply and will be considered with the condition that the degree needs to be completed before starting employment).
