R&DE houses 13,000+ students and their dependents while serving over 6.5 million meals annually to students, conference, catering, retail, and concession guests and annually hosts a combined 52,000 guests in the Stanford Guest House and on-campus in Stanford Conferences. Responsibilities: Working under direct supervision, these employees perform a variety of custodial duties. The supervisor schedules the work and provides instructions; work is reviewed by the supervisor to see whether quality and scheduling requirements have been met. Characteristic Duties:
  • Clean a variety of floors and floor coverings using light cleaners, waxers, and buffers or heavier shampooers, strippers, etc.
  • Clean and remove trash and debris from patios, sidewalks, flower beds, and lawn areas immediately adjacent to buildings using brooms, rakes and blowers
  • Spot clean, shampoo, wax, dust, and oil furniture
  • Wash walls and woodwork by hand or using cleaning equipment
  • Dust and clean a variety of building furnishings, such as lamps, mirrors, door and window glass and fixtures, etc.
  • Replace lamps in light fixtures
  • Clean restrooms and kitchen fixtures
  • Empty ash trays and wastebaskets; may take beds and change linens
  • Perform a variety of labor and related duties, such as moving furniture; setting up and removing P.A. systems, air walls, and dance floors; picking up and delivering mail or other items
  • Report needed building and equipment repairs
  • Perform light maintenance work, such as painting, replacing washers in faucets, and oiling equipment
  • May provide information on cleaning techniques, equipment or materials to new and/or seasonal temporary employees. Qualifications:
  • Must be able to work in an environment where there is high exposure to dust and/or other allergens
  • Ability to withstand extensive walking, pushing, pulling, stooping, and squatting
  • Individual positions may require ability to lift moderately heavy items, range for most positions is 25 to 75 pounds
  • Ability to climb and work from stepladders; range for most positions is 6 to 14 feet
  • Knowledge of related safety procedures
  • Knowledge of cleaning and waxing methods, materials and equipment used in industrial cleaning is desirable, but may need to learn on the job
  • Ability to understand work instructions given in English, either verbally or in writing
