Required Qualifications:
Prior experience with personnel management in a supervisory role.

Knowledge and experience in Safety Instruction.

Set up and maintenance of manufacturing/construction laboratory equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge and experience in Machinery, Millwork, CNC Machining, Thermodynamics, Foundry, Hydraulics & Pneumatics, and construction and concrete technology.

Knowledge and experience in Metal Fabrication and Rapid Prototyping Technology.

Prior experience with the repair and testing of laboratory equipment, and sensitive instrumentation

Bachelors degree or higher.

Preferred Work Experience:

2-4 years experience in a formal technical supervisor role

Job Description:
Working supervisor who oversees the activities of all other laboratory technicians and undergraduate student workers in his charge, and instructional assistants assigned to assist faculty, in the entire department. He/she also interfaces with faculty and the Department Chair to identify building and equipment problems, develop the technical plan for resolving these problems, assisting instructors in the teaching mission of selected courses, especially where lab safety is a primary concern, assigning work responsibilities to those under his/her supervision and seeing that an appropriate plan is set in place to insure completion of jobs in a careful and timely manner. The keeping of time records, ordering equipment and supplies, maintenance of repair facility, care of chemicals, SDS information and safety stations, and the inventory of departmental supplies and equipment, including all computer labs, falls under this individual's list of duties. Maintain allotted budget.

Job Duties:
Schedule and supervise the maintenance and repair of classrooms, offices, laboratories, inventory, storage facilities, vehicles, and equipment (tools, machines, instrumentation, apparatus, etc.) and ensure their cleanliness and functionality.

Evaluate, identify, and develop the technical plan to resolve equipment and building issues. Propose improvements to sustain a state-of-art facility. Supervise and coordinate the installation of new and donated equipment for use in research and student laboratories.

Assist faculty to develop and design process planning for laboratories and research experiments.

Delegate work responsibilities to lab technicians and/or student workers to meet the needs of the Chair, faculty, staff and students for both academic and research purposes. Responsibilities include work orders and purchase requests.

Hold meetings with lab technicians and student workers to discuss the progress, quality, supervision, inspection, and completion of assigned tasks. Provide hiring, and discharge recommendations, and annual evaluation of staff, based on the performance of those individuals under his/her charge.

Develop and enforce safety practices and Standard Operating Procedures. Provide training to faculty, lab technicians, and student workers to ensure proper usage of all equipment as necessary.

Supervise, designate, and maintain a consumable supply of inventory, surplus equipment, and repair parts for all laboratories. Supervise inventory audit for the Department of Engineering Technology.

Manage the allotted budget effectively and efficiently.

Provide assistance and additional support during open house, department tours, industry visits, award presentations, accreditation visits, and similar external outreach activities.

Substitute for professors in the classroom on an emergency basis only.
