Job Summary:

 

 

 

The Technical Director is primarily responsible for overseeing and working on all production elements of Department of Music, Dance & Theatre (MDT) productions in NJCU theaters, including scenery, lighting, sound, props, etc. The Technical Director will also work on various other events in venues on and off campus as needed.  This part-time position is within the Department of Event Services, reporting to the Theater Manager.

 

 

 

 

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

 

 

•Work with Theater Manager to build new organizational systems and further develop theatrical systems

 

 

 

•Manage and assist in coordinating and building of scenery for MDT theatrical productions

 

 

 

•Set design and drafting for MDT theatrical productions as needed

 

 

 

•Maintain scene shop and storage facilities for MDT Department

 

 

 

•Supervise, direct, and assist student workers in scene shop

 

 

 

•Teach and supervise students in safe practices in all areas of theater, especially rigging and building

 

 

 

•Create and maintain safety protocols within theaters

 

 

 

•Provide lighting and sound services (basic design, setup, recording, hang, focus, console operation) for theater events

 

 

 

•Assist Theater Manager as needed to facilitate theater events, including but not limited to being the department representative on-site

 

 

 

•Work in compliance with the policies of both the University and the Theatres

 

 

 

•Other duties as assigned

 

 

 

 

 

Job Requirements:

 

 

 

•Minimum of 5 years experience in the theater/event production industry

 

 

 

•Up to date knowledge of operation and maintenance of shop and stage equipment

 

 

 

•Basic lighting, projection and management skill sets

 

 

 

•Advanced carpentry, rigging and sound skill sets

 

 

 

•Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs at one time, and willingness to work on ladders

 

 

 

•Ability to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends as needed

 

 

 

•Ability to work personably with NJCU faculty, staff and students, as well as various rental clients
