Job Summary: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR. The Department of Sociology and the Center for Family Research at the University of Georgia jointly invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin fall 2018. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Sociology or have completed all degree requirements by August 1, 2018. We seek an outstanding scholar whose empirical research and substantive interests focus on the sociology of health. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach courses in advanced statistical methods, such as structural equation modeling and hierarchical linear modeling. We particularly encourage applicants with training and experience working with large, biologically informed data sets and who are familiar with sample equating, item analysis, and item response theory, as well as experience in genome scale data analyses. We are especially interested in candidates who have post-doctoral training and experience with external funding and/or proposal development. See minimum and preferred qualifications for details. The successful candidate will join a large and diverse Department of Sociology that encourages and supports multi-disciplinary collaboration (http://sociology.uga.edu/). The academic appointment will be in Sociology, and tenure and promotion will occur through the Department of Sociology. The successful candidate will also be expected to maintain active involvement in the University of Georgia's Center for Family Research (CFR; http://www.cfr.uga.edu/). Here, the selected candidate will develop a strong collaborative connection to a productive research team. Current research in the Center focuses on health disparities that result from the inflammatory and neuroendocrine processes arising in early risk and family processes and the way in which these processes may contribute to health outcomes in adulthood. The connection with the CFR is expected to provide a number of professional enrichment opportunities, including opportunities for research collaboration, mentorship in grant writing, and strong support for grant writing efforts.
