Academic Professional- Pre-Law Advisor

Job Summary: The University of Georgia invites applications for the position of Academic Professional for the Pre-Law Advising Office within the Office of Instruction. The Academic Professional is responsible for assisting University of Georgia students with an interest in seeking law degrees;from helping them select suitable programs of study and classes, understand application procedures and admission requirements for law schools, and ultimately further their success in being accepted into law schools. At present, over 1800 undergraduates have self-identified as Pre-Law students. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Advising UGA students and alumni who are interested in applying to law school or pursuing a career in the legal profession * Assisting the Coordinator with creating and delivering programs, speakers, and events to students * Collaborating with the Coordinator to plan and deliver the annual Law School fair and other workshops in support of student success * Contributing to office resource materials (e.g., website, handouts, etc.) regarding law school applications and the legal profession * Assisting the Coordinator with law school data tracking and assessment * Improving admissions for our graduates at T14 law schools * Increasing number of underrepresented groups in law schools through partnerships across campus * Convening and working with a faculty/staff advisory group to serve Pre-Law students * Consulting with law schools to understand their current application requirements and procedures * Providing students with critical information and counseling regarding a changing admissions and legal practice landscape We seek a highly organized, collaborative individual who is committed to working with students, advisors and faculty, someone who is dedicated to student success and works well within a team model. Previous experience in working with Pre-Law students is highly recommended. Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills are required. Minimum Qualifications: * a J.D. from an accredited law school
Preferred Qualifications: * two years of experience working in the legal profession * three to five years of experience advising Pre-Law students at a college/university * experience working in a large, public R-1 university setting * a broad knowledge of the legal profession * demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, administrators and others * excellent oral, written and presentation skills * excellent networking skills
