The researcher will work with Dr. Michael Lesnick and his collaborators on a large, ongoing project to develop cutting edge algorithms and software for topological data analysis. The position is expected to last until Fall 2018, with the possibility to continue in a related position at the Princeton Neuroscience Institute afterwards.
This is an ideal position for a recent college graduate looking to do research in preparation for graduate school in math, computer science, or a related field. However, candidates at any stage in their career will be considered.
The project has a component concerned with fast, scalable computation of topological signatures of data, and also a data visualization component. The researcher will work on one or both of these components, depending on their strengths and interests. There will also be opportunities to apply novel topological data analysis tools to neuroscience data.
- B.A. in mathematics, computer, science, or a related discipline (an exception may be considered for an outstanding candidate)
- Mathematical maturity, including familiarity with linear algebra
- Ability to code in C++
- Desire and ability to absorb challenging new mathematics
- Familiarity with abstract algebra and algebraic topology
- Prior research experience
- Experience with data analysis/data visualization
