Job Description:

Assistant Professor of Graphic Design, Non-Tenure Track


The SJC Art Department, Long Island Campus, is seeking a full-time instructor for the spring semester of 2018 to teach Graphic and Digital Design Courses.



The faculty member will be expected to teach 4 courses per semester which may include introductory through advanced levels of Graphic Design, Advertising Design, Web Design, and/or Digital photography.  Responsibilities also include curriculum development for a developing program for a developing program, manage a Mac based computer lab, student advisement, assist in coordinating professional experience and internships for students, service to the Art Department and SJC community, and continue a rigorous creative professional practice.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • MFA, PhD (or ABD with confirmed completion date before 2019) in Design or related field.
  • At least 2 years teaching experience at the college or university level.
  • Professional graphic design experience.

Required Skills:

The selected candidate must:


  • Have extensive knowledge of graphic design Principles and processes.
  • Be able to effectively teach design within print and digital environments.
  • Be proficient in using Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud, including Photo shop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, MacOS, and other web and game design software.
  • Have the ability to teach such courses in both a profession oriented and art context.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills.
