Position Summary

Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking applications from qualified individuals to serve as the inaugural director of an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) Program at MSU. The PA Program Director will lead the establishment of a program aimed at producing well-trained physician assistants to help meet the health care needs of Michigan's citizens. Working within a Big Ten university setting as well as a community-immersed medical school, the Program's inaugural Director will be responsible for creating an innovative curriculum, helping identify and securing basic science and clinical faculty to participate in the Program, and situating the Program for successful attainment of accreditation in Fall 2020. She/he will also identify, develop and implement programmatic and academic assessment strategies and methodologies supporting formative and summative outcomes with an orientation toward continuous quality improvement. The Director will work closely with MSUCOM's academic administrative team, the college's and university's Curriculum Committees, and basic science and clinical chairpersons and faculty to develop and administer the Program.

This 12-month, full-time fixed-term (non-tenure track) faculty position will report directly to the Dean's office.  Rank of appointment and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The position will remain open until filled.

Minimum Requirements

Required qualifications include certification as a Physician Assistant or as a physician (D.O. or M.D.) with at least three years of administrative experience in healthcare professional programs in higher education.  Strong organizational and administrative skills, including fiscal management, are essential. The successful applicant will also demonstrate the ability to manage within a distributed, complex educational system, have experience with the application of educational assessment methods, and capacity to work effectively in a dynamic academic-clinical environment. She/he should have excellent interpersonal communication and problem solving skills and be familiar with principles and theoretical frameworks underpinning adult learning.

Desired Qualifications

Familiarity with online course management systems and technology-mediated classroom instruction is strongly desired, as is experience with and interest in pursuing scholarship in health professions education.
