Iona College, a private, comprehensive Catholic college founded in 1940 by the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers, with a diverse and welcoming community, invites applications and nominations for the position of Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. With the recent announcement of the Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, the appointment of a new Dean of the Business School, the announcement of a new Business School Building, the hiring of talented new tenure track faculty, and funding for newly endowed positions, there is an exciting momentum at Iona and an ideal time for a new provost to join the college.
Located on a charming nearly 45-acre campus approximately 5 miles north of Manhattan in Westchester County, New York, Iona offers over 4,000 undergraduate and graduate students an intimate academic environment, dedicated faculty and the experience of a Division I athletics program. The Provost will play a significant role on the leadership team of President Joseph E. Nyre, Ph.D., who has set the tone for a team that values hard work, collaboration and communication. The Provost oversees all of Iona’s academic programs, Information Systems, Libraries, Student Life and programs addressing student retention. He or she will be an accomplished academic leader who is committed to the Catholic heritage and identity of the College and will serve as a key partner to the President.
Iona seeks a Provost who will demonstrate a passion for academic excellence; exhibit the entrepreneurial drive to identify new markets and guide the College’s growth; and support the continued development of professional programs, while ensuring an ongoing commitment to the liberal arts.
The Provost will possess a record of success in guiding a complex organization through implementing strategies that lead to progress and change, managing within financial constraints, and simultaneously recognizing opportunities for growth and investment. The Provost will be an articulate spokesperson for the value of an Iona education and will support a collaborative and collegial ethos that encourages engagement with, and a deep commitment to, addressing the challenges facing private higher education today. The Provost will play a vital role in realizing the future priorities of the College through participation in a comprehensive and collaborative strategic planning process.
As leader, mentor and supporter of faculty aspirations, the Provost will be available, engaged and invested in an environment that values teaching and supports faculty in the pursuit of excellence in their scholarly work and will lead efforts to diversify the faculty.
The successful candidate will bring a distinguished record of teaching and scholarly accomplishments and will possess: an unwavering dedication to students and their success; experience encouraging and assessing scholarship and teaching across disciplines; a transparent management style; and a belief in and eagerness to promote shared governance. An earned doctorate or terminal degree and a record of accomplishment suitable to an appointment at the rank of tenured full professor are required.
