Regular/Temporary: Experiential Learning at Puget Sound is a whole person approach to engage learners in meaningful experiences and deliberate and thoughtful reflection. We strive to promote student critical analysis and synthesis, development of real-world skills, and enhance their ability to contribute to their communities.

The Experiential Learning Program Manager position is an exciting opportunity for an organized and motivated individual to build a reflective career development program. The Program Manager will also contribute to the development and implementation of other programs in a dynamic and highly collaborative working environment.

The Experiential Learning Program Manager's primary function will be to develop and implement the Reflective Immersive Sophomore Experience (RISE). RISE is a pilot experience designed to foster career development and generate excitement about experiential learning for the sophomore class. Every sophomore at Puget Sound will be offered the opportunity to pursue a .25 academic unit internship following a year-long experience participation in a preparation workshop and internship search. The workshop will introduce students to career pedagogy and will prepare them to seek and successfully complete an internship during the summer between sophomore and junior year. The Program Manager will play an essential role in managing the three components of RISE - a series of sophomore workshops, summer internship, and reflective project (ePortfolio).

Appointment: Term-Limited (12 month), full-time appointment

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

Program development and oversight

    Effectively translates experiential learning and career development theory into practice Anticipates and engages in ongoing program evaluation and revision Establishes and meets timelines to create an effective process
Career Exploration and Development

    Advises students on topics related to career exploration and decision making as it pertains to pre-internship searches Meets individually with students, when necessary, to review career materials and provide coaching on the internship search process and related tools Develops and facilitates group workshops on career-related topics Contributes to building a culture of reflection and career development by actively encouraging students to be thoughtful about their knowledge, skills, and abilities and effectively articulate them to prospective internship supervisors.
RISE Workshop Instruction

    In collaboration with Career and Employment Services (CES) and the Experiential Learning Leadership Team (ELLT), develops curriculum for regular educational workshops on career-related topics. Facilitates weekly/monthly seminars, provides students with feedback about benchmarks. Coordinates guest speakers, as appropriate, with emphasis on engaging Puget Sound alumni Meets with students to evaluate internship agreements Develops expertise in ePortfolio tools and advises students on construction; reviews individual ePortfolios and may coordinate with a team of faculty/alumni reviewers to provide training and feedback on ePortfolio
Community Partner Engagement

    Collaborating with the Employer Relations Manager, Community Engagement Manager, and Associate Dean, connects with the local community to cultivate internshipsEngages in follow-up with community partners to assess student internship experience.
Other Functions

    Maintains knowledge of best practices in career development and experiential learning Leads individual and group training/information sessions as needed. Performs other duties and contributes to Experiential Learning projects and programs Serves on the Experiential Learning Leadership Team May teach Internship class


    Master's degree. At least one year of increasingly responsible experience in higher education career development or academic advising required. Two additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of the Master's degree.

    Familiarity with StrengthsFinder preferred.

    Higher education experience required, preferably in a 4-year liberal arts institution. Must be able to communicate the value of a small, private liberal arts college education to a wide range of constituents.

    Analytical and Technical Skills: Maintain program records within relational data systems; ability to access available data and develop reports to evaluate program, service, and resource output.

    Strategic Thinking and Program Management: Ability to see the big picture and align program design, service delivery, and resources to support office and institutional goals; to identify implications and connections, consolidate information from various sources to reach sound decisions.
