The University: Mount Saint Mary’s University (www.msmu.edu) is a liberal arts university primarily for women. Founded in 1925 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in the Catholic intellectual tradition, the Mount is an institution dedicated to providing an excellent education directed toward leadership and service. Mount Saint Mary’s University lives out its mission on two campuses: one in West Los Angeles and the second in downtown Los Angeles. The Department: Mount Saint Mary’s psychology program offers a baccalaureate and a master’s degree and supports an associate degree program. The curriculum guides students through the scientific methods, theoretical approaches, and practical applications in the study of human behavior and mental processes as undergraduate majors and graduate students. Grounded in the Mount’s mission and the liberal arts tradition, the Psychology department is committed to employing innovative and evidence-based teaching to empower individuals to become socially responsible global citizens.
As one of the larger departments on campus, with approximately 60 AA students, 200 traditional and 40 weekend college (nontraditional) BA students, and 160 MS students, the Psychology Department has ten full-time faculty. This small size requires team work, and the department is known for its exceptional collegiality.
Qualifications: Applicants must hold a doctoral level degree in psychology or a related field, or be ABD with the expectation that the degree must be completed prior to position start date. Applicants should demonstrate excellence in teaching, advising, and research (individually and with students). An appreciation of the liberal arts educational tradition and service orientation, and experience/interest in contributing to and teaching in a diverse campus environment are required.
Applicants should demonstrate commitment to undergraduate (including associate and baccalaureate) education and experience or potential implementing pedagogically sound practices, both in the classroom and outside of the classroom (i.e. student advising, mentorship, and research), especially with underrepresented minority (URM) students. The ability to teach courses related to two of the following areas: research methodology, cognitive psychology, biological psychology, neuroscience, or clinical/abnormal psychology, is desirable.

Responsibilities: In addition to excellent teaching, faculty responsibilities include a commitment to active involvement in department and university service, academic advisement, mentoring of students, scholarship, and professional activity. The teaching load is three courses one semester and four courses the other semester.
