    Postdoctoral Position in Evolutionary Responses to Environmental Change

    The Campbell lab in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at the University of California at Irvine ( invites applications for a post-doctoral position examining how climate influences natural selection. The project is part of a NSF-funded research program designed to test models for evolutionary rescue and determine if plant populations can adapt quickly enough to environmental change to avoid extinction. The postdoc will investigate impacts of snowmelt timing and summer precipitation on the strength of selection on vegetative and floral traits. The project will involve extensive field research based at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory (, ideally beginning in spring 2018. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to combine field data with quantitative genetic and demographic modeling and to develop expertise in gas chromatography - mass spectrometry of flower volatiles. The postdoc will also be able to collaborate with a dynamic group of ecologists and evolutionary biologists at both UC Irvine and RMBL.

    Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in ecology, evolutionary biology, or a related field, demonstrated experience in conducting field experiments, strong statistical skills, and a successful publication record. The ideal candidate will also have expertise in one of the following areas: chemical analysis of plant volatiles, plant ecophysiology, population modeling.

    The initial appointment is for one year with potential for renewal. The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
