Faculty Director of General Education and Associate or Full Professor

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a twelve-month, tenure-track Faculty Director of General Education and Associate or Full Professor (of a KSU General Education Discipline) faculty position. This position is housed in the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and will report to the Associate Vice President for Curriculum. Academic college and department to be determined.

Position Responsibilities:

Kennesaw State University invites applications for the position of Faculty Director of General Education in the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, beginning July 1, 2018. This is a twelve-month, tenure-track Associate Professor or Full Professor position. The Faculty Director of General Education will oversee the development, promotion, and assessment of the university's general education program. The Faculty Director will serve as the KSU faculty and General Education Council's liaison to the administration and will report to the Associate Vice President for Curriculum. The Faculty Director will act as an advocate for the General Education Program and will work toward enhancing the program in accordance with KSU's mission of providing high quality undergraduate education and programs.

PROGRAM LEADERSHIP & ADVOCACY

  • Chair monthly meetings of the General Education Council (GEC).
  • Guide the development and implementation of a strategic plan for general education.
  • Articulate the purposes of general education to students, faculty, administration, and other stakeholders.
  • Establish a diverse social media profile to promote the purpose and value of general education.
  • Oversee the general education web presence to ensure currency of content.

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

  • Work with faculty to promote coherence in the general education curriculum.
  • Promote nationally-recognized best practices in program development and course delivery.
  • Ensure curriculum and policies are consistent with those articulated by the University System of Georgia.

PROGRAM ASSESSMENT

  • Oversee annual campus-wide general education learning outcomes assessment process.
  • Coordinate the activities of department-based General Education Discipline Assessment Coordinators (DACS) to promote broad faculty participation.
  • Complete and submit assessment reports required by campus continuous improvement initiative (Improve KSU) and SACS-COC accrediting expectations.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Engage in scholarly activity and scholarship related to general education.
  • Work with KSU Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) to offer professional development workshops for faculty teaching general education courses.
  • Oversee resource allocation in support of general education.

Teach at least one (1) general education course each academic year.

Required Education, qualifications, and experience:

  • An earned doctorate in a KSU general education discipline or its foreign equivalent. Applicants with the training, ability, and/or experience equivalent to the minimum degree may be considered.
  • Qualifications commensurate with the appointment of a tenure-track Associate or Full Professor.
  • History of commitment to general education.
  • Knowledge of trends in higher education, specifically those related to undergraduate education.
  • Evidence of strong leadership skills, communication skills, and administrative ability.
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty, deans, and department chairs.
  • Experience with student learning outcomes assessment.
  • A commitment to promoting diversity. Previous experience with program administration and/or curriculum development at a large public institution is desirable, though not required.
