Degree and Area of Specialization:
Ph.D. required, preferrably in the biochemical sciences with an emphasis on biochemistry, cell biology, immunology or genetics.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Minimum 2 years of experience in a research laboratory following Ph.D is required. Research experience in the following areas is preferred: molecular biology, cell culture, biochemistry, organelle biology, beta cell biology, imaging, autoimmunity and/or immunological techniques. Additional consideration will be given to applicants with previous experience working with transgenic mouse colonies.
The Scientist will work with the principal investigator, academic staff, graduate students and postdocs in the Biomolecular Chemistry Department to establish a robust research program to study the role of unfolded protein response, stress responses, and organelle dysfunction in autoimmune diabetes (Type 1 diabetes) using novel genetic mouse models. Work in the laboratory involves molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, cell culture, and in vivo mouse experiments. Personal initiative, independence, strong organizational abilities, and enthusiasm for laboratory research are essential.
