Job Description

As the Nursing Major, Academic Advisor I you will be responsible for student advising; course and/or curriculum development; involvement on College and University committees and/or initiatives; as well as duties as assigned. Florida Gulf Coast University is a comprehensive university dedicated to quality education, research, and service.

Teaching assignments may be on the main campus or at off-campus sites within our region.



Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Advising, Counseling, Education, Administration or a discipline supported by the College from an accredited institution.

Three years of experience in an academic advising environment or related area in higher education.

Must meet University and College criteria for appointment to the level of Academic Advisor I or II.

SPECIAL NOTE: Current FGCU employees appointed as Academic Advisor (Level I or II) may apply for this vacancy. If a current FGCU Academic Advisor (Level I or II) is selected for the position, it will be at his/her current appointment level (I or II) and is not considered a promotion.



Preferred Qualifications

Five or more years of appropriate experience at an institution of higher education.

Experience with student information and admission systems (e.g. Banner, Gulfline, NursingCAS).

Experience in the development of student recruitment materials and initiating recruitment activities.

Experience working with a diverse student population.



Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to appropriately problem solve in a time efficient manner.

Excellent planning and organizing skills with specific attention to details.

Ability to work in a diverse environment and as a collegiate team member.

Knowledge of and willingness to use information technology.

Knowledge of student information and application systems such as Banner, Gulfline and NursingCAS..

Knowledge and experience in the use of technology for distance learning (Canvas) and university teaching.

Ability to consult and collaborate both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of advising resulting in improved student outcomes.

Ability to value continued scholarship and service to the school and University.



Salary Range $36,000 - $37,500

Job Duties

Essential Job Duties

Participates in ongoing development and implementation of Undergraduate and Graduate Nursing Programs recruitment strategies.

Manages NursingCAS for all Programs each admission cycle.

Assists in coordination and delivery of academic advisement for Undergraduate and Graduate Nursing students including admission and progression criteria, university policies and processes and graduation requirements.

Oversees academic advising for Nursing majors and liaises with College academic advisors, Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions regarding admission processes and criteria for BSN and Graduate Programs.

Manages student didactic and clinical course registrations with Program Directors.

Assists in managing undergraduate and graduate prospective students, current students, and other inquiries as well to ensure that transfer credit and course substitutions meet School standards.

Assists in undergraduate and graduate student recruitment including development of materials and attendance at recruitment events on and off-campus.

Assists the School Director in the completion of graduation certifications for university, State Boards of Nursing, and other credentialing organizations as well as updating Program Guidebooks.

Assists in organizing Eagle Expo and Graduate Expo as well as the annual School of Nursing Convocation under the direction of the School Director.

Communicates with faculty and staff in the School, College and across the university to achieve job responsibilities.



Other Duties

Expectations for scholarship will be those expected of Academic Advisors as identified in FPED and College documents. Service to school, college and university is expected in the form of assisting faculty in exam proctoring, committee service, accreditation, recruitment activities, Eagle Expos, Hospital Education Fairs, School Convocation etc.
