Associate Dean - College of Humanities & Social Sciences

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Utah Valley University is seeking an Associate Dean within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Associate Dean will assist the Dean in the operational management, leadership, and policy direction for multiple academic programs, and activities within area of responsibility.

  • Provides coordination, guidance and process management for departments involved in services and programs delivered to stakeholders, i.e. students, parents, other departments, etc.
  • Serves in the absence of the Dean and as a member of the senior management team by participating in strategic planning, staffing decisions, policy making and other strategic areas.
  • Consults with various groups, students, alumni, and other advocacy groups to provide for the personal and academic needs of the student population.
  • Assists in developing partnerships to attain departmental goals and objectives.
  • Conducts research as appropriate for projects or initiatives.
  • May be assigned budgetary responsibilities.

Required Qualifications:
  • Earned doctorate degree from an accredited institution in a discipline related to college programs/ departments (Behavioral Science, Communication, English & Literature, History & Political Science, Integrated Studies, Languages & Cultures, Philosophy & Humanities)
  • Achievement of tenure, and rank of at least Associate Professor.
  • A minimum of three years of effective higher education administrative and leadership experience in higher ed, preferably as a department chair.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices within higher education.
  • Knowledge of, and a solid record of, ongoing scholarly contributions.
  • Knowledge and expertise, educational background, experience, and knowledge of current practices and trends related to any of the college programs/departments.
  • Knowledge of educational units dedicated to teaching and student success.
  • Knowledge of higher education administrative processes, including but not limited to program assessment, tenure, rank, post-tenure review, faculty evaluation, and faculty advocacy.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques of administration, supervision, personnel practices, and office procedures.
  • Knowledge of human resources concepts, practices, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of university and/or public auditing policies, standards and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a ride range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Ability to conduct assessment according to disciplinary best practices and university needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and develop/deliver presentations.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to provide vision and adapt to change.

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

FLSA: Exempt

Pay Range: $73,376 - $97,835
