A fixed-term position for a Postdoctoral Associate focuses on first-principles electronic-structure simulations of materials for optoelectronic applications with an emphasis on semiconductors and insulators for radiation detection.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Research Associate will be involved in collaborative efforts towards design and optimization of materials (halides and oxides) for optoelectronic applications.
The work will involve density functional theory (DFT) and beyond-DFT techniques to screen, characterize, and optimize materials and their electronic properties for suitable applications.
Candidates with a strong background and experience in electronic structure methods (DFT, TDDFT, GW or BSE approaches) as well as programming experience are encouraged to apply.
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Additional hours as requested or needed
The work will involve the study of complex halides, hybrid halides, oxides, and chalcogenides. These materials have generated interest in radiation detection devices as semiconductors or scintillators and also in optoelectronics.
Interest in a variety of materials and experience in bulk, nano-structures and surfaces/interfaces is therefore desired.
Experience with point defects will be advantageous.
Interested applicants should submit PDF attachments of: (1) a cover letter addressing experience & accomplishments in light of the above requirements, and (2) detailed CV with names and contact information of three references.
A PhD in Physics or closely related field is required.
Experience with first-principles density-functional methods and electronic-structure theory is also required, as is proficiency with LINUX and FORTRAN.
Experience with VASP, PWscf and similar codes, defects, and alloys are desirable.
